7 Steps to Attract Your Ideal Client on Instagram

Many brands and entrepreneurs who want to leverage Instagram for business focus only on growth, overlooking a huge factor when it comes to the ROI of any good social media marketing strategy: The QUALITY of those followers.  

Attracting the right audience on Instagram can make a big difference in your results. 

In this blog, we are going to explore what it takes to attract and grow the right audience for you AND your business.

Step #1 – GET CLEAR ON YOUR IDEAL CLIENT AVATAR (ICA)

Trying to get your ideal client’s attention when you don’t know who they are is like yelling at a friend across a packed football stadium…. they aren’t going to hear your message. 

Your ideal client avatar is the person your business can help get the best transformation with your current programs/services/products. 

Ideal followers are both the people who are looking for accounts and content like yours on social media, AND also the people you and your business can help the best.

Once you’ve identified exactly who your ideal avatar is, you can better determine what problems you can help them solve with your content to attract them. 

TIP: An easy way to ascertain this is to look at what questions they are asking in your comments, Dm’s, or group pages, and answer them with your content. 

Step #2 – DEFINE YOUR NICHE

If you haven’t identified what your niche is on Instagram, DO THAT FIRST! Before you actually start creating content.

If you want to grow your Instagram, you need to stand out. Be CLEAR on what your stand for and what your account is about. At our agency, we call it” death by vanilla”- meaning the best way to ruin an Instagram page or not grow, is to be too vanilla. Vanilla content is like vanilla ice cream- most people like it but no one tells their friends about it. 

Once you decide on your niche, you can choose 5-6 core brand topics that will be helpful for your ideal followers [ hint- it should be around the ways you can help them] and keep your content specific to those key topics. Remember- you may get bored with your content, but your ideal audience won’t! 

If you want to increase your Instagram engagement, you need to get your ideal audience’s attention… and to do that you should know who they are, how they talk and be laser-focused on helping them solve their problems.

Step #3 – OPTIMIZE YOUR BIO

Your Instagram bio is the FIRST section of your profile people see when they visit… and it’s one of the deciding factors if they want to follow you or not.

Your bio is one of the most valuable parts of your Instagram profile because it gives a summary of who you are, what you do, who you can help, and what your account is about.  If it’s not clear or to the point, people are going to be less likely to stay and engage with your Instagram profile. 

TIP: Using the name field in your Instagram bio for targeted keywords is a great tactic to help increase the likeliness your account/brand will show up in searches for those keywords… 

Step #4 – CLEAN UP THE LOOK OF YOUR PAGE 

Visuals are important!

A quality profile image, clear bio, highlight covers, and a feed that is not too busy, are a few things that make an Instagram profile stand out. 

The first step to growing your Instagram is a potential follower wanting to actually click in and start consuming your content when they first visit your page.…and the look of your profile is what determines this outcome. 

Users are bombarded with content on Instagram, so if your content is super busy, poor quality or hard to read they will likely bounce. 

When it comes to marketing, in general, having great visuals is critical to getting people’s attention and interest. 

According to studies, the human brain can process visuals 65,000x faster than text! 

Understanding the likes and dislikes of your ideal avatar is important to take into account when deciding on the look of your branding on Instagram because it’s an important factor in attracting them or not. 

Start taking the look of your content a lot more seriously if you want to grow. 

Step #5 – INCORPORATE CONTENT YOUR ICA WOULD WANT TO SHARE

You’ve probably heard the saying “birds of a feather flock together”, well the same goes for Instagram. It’s likely your ideal follower follows and is followed by people just like them. One of the best tactics to attract more of them is to incorporate content they would want to share with those people.  

People are on Instagram to learn, be inspired, or be entertained…. So any time you post – you should make sure your content is doing one of those 3 things. 

Step #6 – ASK YOUR AUDIENCE WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE MORE OF?

Not sure what they like? Ask! This could be done in stories using polls or quiz questions, to give you a better idea of what your followers want to see or learn. You can also ask on an InstragramLIVE or add to your Instagram captions. 

Step #7 – USE HASHTAGS YOUR ICA WOULD SEARCH FOR 

More and more people are using Instagram as a search engine to seek out different types of content and accounts they want to follow…And one way they are searching for those accounts is through hashtags. 

Make sure to do your research when planning your hashtag groups for each post and think of the tags as keywords that your ideal client would be searching for.

An optimized hashtag strategy also helps the algorithm better understand where to categorize your content and account and makes you way more likely to show up in the search tab when your ICA is searching for like topics. 

Last but not least… Stay consistent!

We find that most people are inconsistent or lack execution because they just don’t have a good Instagram strategy. They throw content spaghetti at a wall and when they don’t see results  – they lose motivation.

How do we know this? Because if we told you we had a guaranteed plan to grow your Instagram by attracting your ideal followers who will eventually become clients or customers, you would be MOTIVATED and make time in your schedule.

The lack of motivation isn’t you, your content, or Instagram, it’s not having clarity or a plan that works.
